Wilmington Firm Plans Student Housing

By Cece Nunn, posted Jul 15, 2016
A Wilmington-based company developing several apartment communities in the area has added student housing to its list of projects.

Tribute Investment & Development Inc. is planning a five-story building with 40 three-bedroom apartments and four two-bedroom apartments on undeveloped land at 375 Government Center Drive in Wilmington, according to site plans and a company official.

The units will be market-rate, student apartments, said Matt Maynard, co-director of Tribute.

The current plan also includes about 2,500 square feet of retail space in the building.

"We do not have any tenants lined up yet, but we would love to see something that would be a value-add for our residents," Maynard said in an email.

The apartment amenities planned are a large fitness center, club room and resort-style swimming pool and cabana, Maynard said.

A Tribute limited liability company, Racine Apartments LLC, bought the 2.3 acres of land at 375 Government Cent Drive for $1.05 million on July 5 from Naman Wilmington III LLC, according to New Hanover County property tax records.

The plans were considered at a city of Wilmington Technical Review Committee meeting in June and are currently under review, according to the city's project tracking website.
