New Subdivision Planned Near Monkey Junction

By J. Elias O'Neal, posted Apr 17, 2014
A 38-lot, single-family development is being planned north of Monkey Junction.

Officials with Horizon Homes of Wilmington filed plans Thursday with the Wilmington Development Services division for a new single-family development called Fortune Place, according to city documents.

The development is set to rise south of the Henderson Parke section in the Johnson Farms housing community at 4900 Gate Post Lane.

The plan is currently being reviewed by the city’s development services’ technical review committee.

Horizon Homes of Wilmington is no stranger to the market.

The homebuilder is currently building new residences in the Compass Pointe – a master planned housing development north of Leland near the future Interstate 140 corridor in Brunswick County.

Plans for Fortune Place call for both Gate Post and Good Wood lanes to be extended into the development to provide connectivity to the 13.5-acre site, according to city documents. The site will also include a central park, sidewalks and wooded lots.

Robin Hackney, a co-owner of the home building firm with her husband, Deans, said pending permits and final approval from the city’s technical review committee, officials  hope to have many of the lots in place by early fall.

The average lot size for homes in the development is 8,680 square feet.

Robin Hackney said officials with Horizon Homes are targeting the low- to mid-$200,000 price range. She added the firm is also taking reservations for home sites in the development.

“It’s a great wooded piece of property,” Robin Hackney said. “There will be a loop road, it will be family friendly and have sidewalks. There will be natural gas in the community through Piedmont Natural Gas, which will be a nice, and they will all be custom homes.”
