A new wave of apartment development is slated for the Mayfaire area.
Officials with Wilmington-based McKim & Creed released preliminary engineering plans Thursday for 98 new luxury units for phase two of The Reserve at Mayfaire during the development service’s technical review committee meeting.
The new apartments, which are being developed by Charlotte-based State Street Companies, would tie into the existing apartment development along Town Center Drive and front Eastwood Road on 8.1 acres.
Richard Collier, assistant vice president of McKim & Creed, said the second phase would mirror the existing apartment development and include a new pool, elevators and a clubhouse. The four new buildings would also be constructed with platforms to provide a level of parking beneath the three-stories of units.
Collier said his team is also working to connect the new phase to the city’s hike and bike trail, which fronts Eastwood Road. He added that the development would also connect to future Cavalier Drive, allowing for apartment dwellers to access the nearby Mayfaire shopping center.
McKim & Creed officials plan to submit their application June 20 to rezone the parcel, with construction slated to begin in a year, pending city approval.
The Reserve at Mayfaire’s expansion plans is one of many either under construction or slated for the area.
Officials with Greensboro-based Mega Builders are planning to build a192-unit apartment complex on 15 acres along Old MacCumber Station Road.
Plans call for the two, three-story buildings to house 96 one, two and three-bedroom units. The complex will also be designed as garden atrium apartments, allowing for middle, open-air park areas enclosed by other units. The site will also house a trash compacter, pool, clubhouse, playground and dog park.
Rental rates are still being discussed. But Forde said the rents would well exceed the current market value of $715 per month.
Work also continues on the Headwaters at Autumn Hall apartment community in the Autumn Hall development off Eastwood Road.
The $28 million, 286-unit development is currently preleasing units for occupancy in the late summer.
