Pointe At Barclay Developers Plan Mixed Use Building

By Cece Nunn, posted Aug 1, 2018
Site plans for a mixed-use building at The Pointe at Barclay, a movie theater-anchored commercial complex in midtown Wilmington, were submitted recently to city officials.

Labeled Building 7, the two-story, more than 21,000-square-foot structure could hold a mix of office and retail users, according to site plans and Hill Rogers, broker in charge at Wilmington-based Cameron Management.

The Pointe at Barclay is under development by Cameron Properties Land Co. and Collett, a Charlotte retail development firm.

Rogers said Wednesday that Cameron Management has no tenants to announce currently for Building 7, which would be located on a tract close to the corner of Independence Boulevard and South 17th Street.

But submitting site plans now for technical review will aid in marketing the space, Rogers said.

"It's a four-month process to get site plan approval," he explained.

Rogers said demand continues for retail and office space in midtown. Under construction next to The Pointe is the first building in an office park called Midtown Park at Barclay, also a Cameron development. The structure will be occupied by Wilmington Health.

The Pointe 14, a 14-screen Stone Theatres movie theater that anchors The Pointe at Barclay, opened last year. Aside from the movie theater, The Pointe currently includes mainly restaurants, as well as Grand Nails Salon, Orangetheory Fitness, Club Pilates and an office of Intracoastal Realty, among other offerings.

Ice cream shop Heavenly Sweet is the latest tenant to open its doors at The Pointe.

Site plans for Building 7, which were prepared by Paramounte Engineering Inc. and Hipp Architecture & Development, could be discussed at a meeting of Wilmington's Technical Review Committee in August, according to the city's project tracking website.

After technical approval and a building permit is issued, the new structure at The Pointe would likely take nine to 12 months to complete, Rogers said.
