Current commercial building activity in Wilmington includes retail and office space, with more planned in the coming years throughout the area, including on Military Cutoff Road and in midtown Wilmington. In addition to office space, the projects are adding restaurants and service providers. The following are just four examples of local commercial development activity currently underway in the city of Wilmington.
6925 FRESCO DRIVE
WHAT IS IT?: The TowneBank Building, a 33,540 square-foot office structure
WHERE: 6925 Fresco Drive, off Military Cutoff Road
WHO: The general contractor is Thomas Construction Group, which will also occupy 16,850 square feet on the second floor. TowneBank Mortgage and TowneBank Insurance, subsidiaries of Virginia-based TowneBank (NASDAQ:TOWN), will be on the first floor.
WHEN: Set to be complete in November
MILITARY CUTOFF ROAD & SIR TYLER DRIVE
WHAT IS IT?: Renaissance Market, a 45,546-square-foot retail center
WHERE: The northeast corner of Military Cutoff Road and Sir Tyler Drive WHO: The 45,546-square-foot center will include anchor tenants Earth Fare grocery store in 22,700 square feet and a 14,250-square-foot West Marine. The center will also be home to a 3,000-square-foot Blaze Pizza, among other tenants. The center is under development by Harbour Retail Partners and Trask Land Co., and the general contractor for the project is Thomas Construction Group.
WHEN: The Blaze Pizza building is expected to be done by September, with Earth Fare not far behind in November.
1124 GALLERY PARK BLVD.
WHAT IS IT?: A 60,000-square-foot building in an office park called Midtown Park at Barclay
WHERE: 1124 Gallery Park Blvd., next to The Point at Barclay
WHO: One of the area’s largest healthcare companies, Wilmington Health, plans to locate obstetrician/gynecologist services there as part of its lease of half, or 30,000 square feet, of the first building in an office park expected to hold four structures and a parking deck. The general contractor for the first structure is Clancy & Theys Construction Co. The building was designed by BMH Architects, and the developer is Cameron Properties Land Co.
WHEN: Set to be complete in January 2019
3512 OLEANDER DRIVE
WHAT IS IT?: A 4,200-square-foot retail strip center
WHERE: 3512 Oleander Drive, next to the Panera Bread location in front of The Collection at Independence, formerly Independence Mall
WHO: The retail building, under development by property owner Oleander Company Inc. and designed by architect Cothran Harris, will hold Moe’s Southwest Grill and an AT&T Wireless location. The general contractor is McKinley Building Corp. The site previously held a bank building until it was demolished in 2016.
WHEN: Set to be complete by the end of July
