Wilmington Health is the first tenant confirmed for a new Port City office park called Midtown Park at Barclay.

One of the area's largest health care companies, Wilmington Health plans to locate obstetrician/gynecologist services there as part of its lease of half, or 30,000 square feet, of the first building in Midtown Park at Barclay. Other Wilmington Health services that could be part of the new office are expected to be determined at a later date.

"We need more space in some of our existing buildings, and this will give us the opportunity to make several internal changes that will allow us to operate more efficiently across all of our buildings," said Chris Bunch, chief operating officer of Wilmington Health, on Monday.

A Wilmington Chamber of Commerce groundbreaking ceremony for Midtown Park at Barclay, 1124 Gallery Park Blvd., will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Under development by Cameron Properties Land Co., the park is adjacent to dining and enterainment complex The Pointe at Barclay.

The office park is slated to eventually include four office buildings with three stories each and two three-story parking decks, to be built in four phases, on 9.5 acres. The first building is expected to be complete in January 2019 and the general contrator for the structure is Clancy & Theys Construction Co. The building was designed by BMH Architects.

Wilmington Health has been rapidly expanding its footprint in the Wilmington area, with more space under construction at Mayfaire and in Leland.

The company's new office space is part of a major mixed-use development push in Wilmington's midtown, led by residential community The Forks at Barclay and The Pointe at Barclay, which is anchored by the Stone Theatres movie complex The Pointe 14. New restaurants have opened recently at The Pointe, and the second phase of another residential component at the development, the Element Barclay Apartments, is set to break ground in May.
