A Wilmington-based company honored last month as one of the fastest-growing firms in the U.S. is changing one of its Port City addresses.

A.R.C. Transit has leased the second floor of 2715 Ashton Drive, a class-A office building in midtown, and is expected to move its corporate offices this fall from a smaller space at 1013 Ashes Drive in the Military Cutoff-Eastwood Road area.

“We are growing rapidly,” said Scott Anderson, COO of A.R.C. Transit. “It [the new office space] should allow us to grow and take us to where we need to be in the foreseeable future and out five years.”

The company, formerly called LoadMatch Logistics, ranked No. 2241 on this year’s Inc. 5000 list of the nation’s fastest-growing privately held companies, one of eight Wilmington-area firms to make the list. A.R.C. Transit grew by 162 percent and had $41.3 million in revenue over a three-year period, according to the Inc. listing.

Founded in 2006 and led by CEO Gary Winstead and Anderson, A.R.C Transit serves exporters and importers throughout the U.S., arranging the transportation of shipping containers from ocean ports for import clients and then using those containers for exports.

“A.R.C. Transit was attracted to this particular space due to its close proximity to the port, as well as their new container yard on Burnett Boulevard. More importantly, this new office will provide them with the much-needed space for continued growth,” said Allan Fox of Coldwell Banker Commercial SunCoast, who represented A.R.C. Transit in the transaction.

Hill Rogers, broker in charge with Cameron Management Inc., represented the landlord, Irongate LLC, in the lease transaction for an undisclosed amount. Rogers, who announced the transaction Friday in a news release, said A.R.C. Transit signed a long-term lease.

Anderson said the company has 47 employees, about 25 of which work in the company’s Wilmington corporate office. The new space on Ashton Drive will give the firm 2,000 additional square feet from the current 5,500 square feet on Ashes Drive.

Another factor in the company’s decision to leave Ashes Drive, Anderson said, was the amount of traffic around Military Cutoff and Eastwood roads. Traffic was also a consideration in the company’s decision to move its container yard from Leland to Wilmington, Winstead said in a news release.

The Burnett Boulevard location "has allowed us greater flexibility to serve our clients and has eliminated the need to fight cross-town traffic,” Winstead said, in a separate news release on the fact that the Burnett Boulevard property still has acreage and buildings available for businesses to lease. “This also helps if we have last-minute requests. It’s a great opportunity where we are uniquely situated 250 yards from the port main entry.”

This year marked A.R.C. Transit’s fifth time as an honoree on the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing companies.
