Noodles Restaurant Proposed In Front Of Independence Mall

By Cece Nunn, posted May 27, 2015
Noodles could be cooking some day soon in a new restaurant proposed for Oleander Drive in front of Independence Mall, according to site plans posted Wednesday on the city of Wilmington's project tracking website.

Noodles and Company would open in 2,500 square feet of space at 3512 Oleander Drive, on land where a vacant, 4,774-square-foot bank building currently sits, the site plans show. The documents say the bank building would be removed and 1,260 square feet of indoor space (excluding the kitchen and bathrooms) and an 800-square-foot uncovered patio area would be added. The plans also call for 32 parking spaces.

The restaurant plans list Nelson MacRae, president of The Oleander Company Inc., as owner/developer. Norris & Tunstall Consulting Engineers of Wilmington submitted the plans, which are expected to be reviewed by the city's Technical Review Committee at a meeting June 11, according to the TRC's latest agenda.

No previous sale prices for 3512 Oleander Drive are listed in New Hanover County Property tax records, which show the parcel has a tax value of $432,400 as of this year.

Panera Bread opened a new restaurant next door last year, and in the spring of 2013, Starbucks retrofitted a former gas station to open a coffee shop at the intersection of Oleander Drive and Independence Boulevard.

A restaurant company of the same name, though spelled with an "&," has locations across the U.S., including 15 in North Carolina, according to the Noodle & Company website.
