Cape Fear River Marina, Event Venue Gets New Owner, Managers

By Cece Nunn, posted Jan 15, 2015
A marina on River Road in Wilmington has new management after a local investment company bought the 20-acre property recently, according to an announcement Thursday.

As of Jan. 1, Events at Watermark became the management company for what was formerly called Watermark Marina at 4114 River Road, the company said in a news release. The site includes an 11,765-square-foot two-story clubhouse with views of the Cape Fear River, a swimming pool and four suites, and a 480-foot pier on a private bay.

Tina Ablang and Christopher Gore, co-owners of Events at Watermark, are leasing the property from its new owners, a company called SCS. Ablang and Gore plan to expand the venue’s use for corporate events, Ablang said Thursday.

“It was already being utilized as a wedding venue. We just forsee a lot more potential here for the use of the space,” she said. “We’re going to be running corporate meetings, corporate retreats, receptions, weddings, concerts and unique events out of this space.”

Gore and Ablang plan to host an open house 4-7 p.m. Feb. 17 at the clubhouse.

Ablang said the property includes a dry storage facility for boats, but SCS would have to answer questions about that part of the marina property. Attempts to reach SCS were unsuccessful as of Thursday afternoon.

A listing on Loopnet.com for 4114 River Road says the property includes more than 40 acres and has a 62,288-square-foot dry dock with 450 dry stack slips and two drive-in doors.
