Anderson Plans New Retail Center For Oleander Drive

Update: This version has been updated to correct the purpose of the planned building.

Steve Anderson Properties wants to build a new 16,000-to 21,000-square-foot retail center at 6020 Oleander Drive, developer Steve Anderson said Monday.

Anderson said that while he is currently in talks about what businesses will go there, the center is in its preliminary stages with no tenants to announce at the moment.

An increasingly busy corridor, that section of Oleander is a good spot to add retail space, he said.

"I think it's been some time since any new retail has been built in that area, and in my survey, everything in that neighborhood was full," Anderson said.

The smaller buildings currently at that address, which was previously the home of a landscaping business and a bakery, would be demolished to make way for the new center, potentially a 25-foot-high, one-story structure, according to plans submitted to the city’s Technical Review Committee by Tripp Engineering. The plans also call for 73 parking spaces.

The 1.7-acre property, owned by a family trust, is bordered by Oleander Drive and Bagley Avenue. The new center's plans are expected to be reviewed by the TRC on Oct. 30, according to the city’s project tracking website.

Anderson developed the retail center Anderson Square on Oleander, the three phases of the Offices at Mayfaire and Howe Creek Landing. Anderson said earlier this month via text message that he had sold all of his company's interest in the Offices at Mayfaire III.

A section of Oleander Drive adjacent to where the new center is planned has experienced an increase in commercial activity in recent months, with offices, stores and other businesses opening in leased space throughout the corridor.
