New fitness options are coming to Mayfaire and Porters Neck.

They include a second location for a local center, Axis Fitness; a new business, EpicFit 365; a franchise of Burn Boot Camp; and a climbing gym.

Monica Dressler of Charlotte plans to open a new location of Burn Boot Camp in 5,000 square feet at Bayshore Commons, a Wal-Mart-anchored shopping center in Porters Neck. The fitness center, which will be led by head trainer Fabio Alicea, will have a floating floor, nutrition counseling and free boot camps at 9 a.m. on Saturdays, among other features.

Alicea and Dressler said they expect the Porters Neck location of the Huntersville-based company to be open by the end of September or beginning of October, depending on how long it takes to upfit the new space.

Dressler said she chose Bayshore Commons with an eye on the future.

“Everyone that we talked to from Realtors to contractors, people who seem to have a thumb on the pulse of what’s going on in Wilmington, were telling me the growth seems to be going north toward Hampstead, from Ogden, Porters Neck to Hampstead, and we felt that was probably going to be the best place for us looking out over the next five years,” she said.

Eastern Carolinas Commercial Real Estate represented Bayshore Commons in Burn Boot Camp’s lease, said Nicholas Silivanch, partner and vice president of retail sales and leasing for ECCRE. Baxter Cheek of Resort Brokerage represented Dressler.  

At Mayfaire Town Center, Ryan Petrilla and his father, Jim Petrilla, plan to open EpicFit 365 by the end of November, the Wilmington residents said recently.

The Petrillas leased the 5,300 square feet of space formerly occupied by Luxe Home Interiors at 6859 Monument Drive at Mayfaire.

Ryan Petrilla said the facility will house two boutique activities: high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and indoor cycling with custom-made bikes.

“We wanted to find a place to serve Wilmington, and the kind of people that go to Mayfaire are the kind that are typically interested in boutique fitness,” said Jim Petrilla.

Another aspect of EpicFit 365 will be the ability of members to use the facility, except for the bikes, at their convenience, Ryan Petrilla said.

“Outside of the core hours, when there isn’t a coach there, they’ll be able to access the workout facility using a key fob system,” he said.

Thomas Construction Group is currently working on the space, and the Petrillas are working on hiring cycling instructors and fitness coaches.

The owners of Axis Fitness, Britt DeLoreto and Mike Barnhart, have leased space in what will be a new building at Oak Landing, a Harris Teeter-anchored shopping center at the corner of Porters Neck Road and Market Street.

They opened Axis Fitness Lumina at Lumina Station in January and currently have about 180 members.

“We’ve had really good growth, really good response from people,” said DeLoreto. “Our goal was to open a second location in the second year.”

Axis offers personal training, group training and corporate wellness for small businesses, DeLoreto said.

He said he and Barnhart, who worked as personal trainers for a decade before starting Axis, hope to have the new Axis location open by the first quarter of 2017.

Wilmington Rock Gym is a new indoor rock climbing facility at 8118 Market St. that’s currently open on a limited basis to members only.

The facility includes more than 50 top rope routes, more than 20 bouldering routes, a high-intensity training wall, cascade foam flooring, equipment rentals and retail items, according to gym officials.  

The gym also offers intro to climbing courses for newcomers.
