Tech Repair Business To Expand With Carolina Beach Road Location

By Cece Nunn, posted Dec 4, 2015
With plans to open a second location, a local businessman leased shopping center space recently in Beau Rivage Marketplace.

Ted Glackin, owner of smartphone, computer and tablet repair store Mr Phix at 1545 S. College Road, said it made sense to expand in a busy section of New Hanover County.

“Business has been growing with the developent of the area – all the River Road development and then the development on Independence [Boulevard] over there – I feel like it’s a strategic move. Also, I live on River Road so it’s in close proximity to my home,” Glackin said Friday.

The second Mr Phix will be in Suite 120 at 5916 Carolina Beach Road in about 1,200 square feet of space that’s been vacant since it was built about seven years ago at the Harris Teeter-anchored shopping center, Glackin said.

In addition to serving individual customers, Mr Phix is also a preferred vendor for Nest Realty, Intracoastal Realty and Network Real Estate for some tech help and repair, Glackin said. He said he hopes to work with more local real estate agents, especially in the areas of on-call tech support for vacation rental customers and new homeowners.

Glackin moved the first location of Mr Phix to 1545 S. College Road earlier this year, and he said he wants to use that experience as a guide for opening the second location early next year.

“My hopes are that we can duplicate the process – that’s the goal – and tap into the Carolina Beach, Beau Rivage and River Road crowd,” Glackin said. “We want to be ahead of the curve.”

Pittsburgh-based real estate investment and development firm ECHO Realty bought Beau Rivage Marketplace for $12.2 million during the summer. Eastern Carolinas Commercial Real Estate represented ECHO Realty and Glackin in the lease.
