An unnamed investor from Germany is hoping to rehab a historic building in downtown Wilmington, according to brokers involved in the sale.
Boasting nearly 4,300 square feet of space, the 112-year-old building is located at 108 Market St., a few doors down from the recently shuttered Deluxe restaurant space.
MaDonna McMahon, a broker with Wilmington-based Coldwell Banker Sea Coast Advantage, represented the building’s owner, Dru Melville, during the $450,000 cash transaction. Ulli Johnson, a broker with Hampstead-based Carolina Coast Properties, represented the German buyer.
The parties closed on the building last week.
Johnson and the German investor could not be reached for comment by press time Wednesday afternoon.
McMahon said the investor plans to spend more than $300,000 to convert the second and third floors into apartments. She said he is also interested in converting the ground level space possibly into a wine bar or general retail.
