Partnership With Pender Could Mean 421 Development

By Alison Lee Satake, posted Jul 7, 2009

A vote at Wednesday’s Cape Fear Public Utility Authority monthly board meeting could spark development along the U.S. 421 corridor.

The authority plans to vote on a new resolution to partner with the Pender County board of commissioners to provide waste water infrastructure along the western side of the Cape Fear River. Officials have said development of the stretch of highway that runs from downtown Wilmington along the Cape Fear has been stymied by the lack of potable water and sewage disposal infrastructure.

“The master plan draft encourages us to work in concert with Pender County,” said Carey Disney Ricks, CFPUA public relations administrator. “This resolution is directed by the plan.”

McKim & Creed are drafting a master plan to develop these necessary sewer and water systems.

The board also will potentially vote on Newland Communities’ River Road development project’s water and sewer. Bill Pinnix, CFPUA engineering manager will give a presentation on the project.

The meeting will be held in Room 601 in the New Hanover County Government Center at 135 Government Center Drive.
