Peño Mediterranean Grill, a fast casual Mediterranean concept, is now open at The Pointe at Barclay.

Peño has operated two locations in Wilmington for the several years, previously under the name Baba Ghannouj Mediterranean Bistro. In early 2016, founder Jamal Haddad partnered with Rocco Quaranto and Wells Struble, co-owners of Tama Tea, another locally born franchise. As a result, Baba Ghannouj was rebranded as Peño Mediterranean Grill early this year, and franchising plans were announced in February

Since that time, the Baba Ghannouj that was located in the food court at Independence Mall closed, while the location at 351-29 S. College Road in University Commons has been rebranded. Peño has also opened two locations in South Carolina, one in Charleston and the other in Myrtle Beach, and has contracts in North Carolina for locations in Charlotte, Raleigh and Jacksonville.

The new Pointe at Barclay building seats about 70 guests in the main dining room with a six- to 10-person party room that can be reserved for free. There's also room for 30 diners outside.

Large salads and spreads such as hummus, baba ghannouj and tzatziki, along with stuffed grape leaves, are displayed in glass cases at the counter, showcasing the restaurant’s fresh selections, while meats are grilled in the open kitchen.

Peño’s menu includes kabob and gyro platters, gyro sandwiches and bowls, along with wraps and salads. The platters and bowls are prepared with a choice of beef, lamb or chicken, which can be added to any of the salads as well. Sides include avocado salad, basmati rice, French fries and a variety of spreads served with pita bread.

Take-out and catering are available, and Peño is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.

Peño Mediterranean Grill is located at 351-29 S. College Road in University Commons and now at 1611 Dusty Miller Lane, Unit 301, in The Pointe at Barclay.
