Thalian Association Hires Artistic Director

By Jenny Callison, posted Apr 21, 2014
Three months after announcing it was consolidating two part-time artistic director positions and seeking a full-time artistic director, Thalian Association announced Monday that it has made its selection.

David T. Loudermilk is the community theater organization’s new artistic director, according to a news release.

“David brings a wealth of experience in acting, directing and teaching to Thalian Association,” Danny Brock, chairman of the Thalian Association board of directors, said in the release. “His leadership will take Thalian Association to the next level and will help us expand our theatrical and educational offerings in both scope and quality.”

The position consolidates the community theater’s two artistic director positions – one for its main stage and one for its children’s theater (TACT) productions. Loudermilk will oversee all productions on all stages and will guide the artistic direction of the community theater as it continues to grow and expand, the release stated.

Thalian Association productions take place in three venues: Thalian Hall, the Community Arts Center and, most recently, in the Red Barn Studio, which owners Linda Lavin and Steve Bakunas have leased to the performing arts organization for three years rent free.

Loudermilk has performed in theaters around the world and on cruise ships, according to the release. In New York City, he worked for the Broadway Workshop and directed for its Children’s Musical Theater Festival. Since moving to Wilmington in 2008, he has been actively involved with Thalian Association, directing for both main stage and the children’s theater. Prior to joining Thalian Association, Loudermilk served as drama director for Cape Fear Academy, the release stated.
