In Wilmington's Echo Farms subdivision, the first units of a new housing development are nearing completion.

Woodlands Landing Townhomes include 176 one-, two- and three-bedroom units. Rents range from $1,234 to $2,200.

"We have started our pre-leasing on Woodlands Landing," said Brian Eckel, of GHK Cape Fear Development and Wilmington-based commercial real estate firm Cape Fear Commercial. "Our first units will deliver in March 2020."

According to the GHK Cape Fear Development website, "Woodlands Landing will be a high-end, rental townhome-style community . . . the project will target a diverse range of residents ranging from young professionals to active retirees who seek more privacy and a quieter living environment along with amenity-rich living without the burden of home ownership."

Among its amenities, Woodlands Landing has a clubhouse, a resort-style pool, outdoor kitchen, walking trails and bike storage.

Eckel said the community's website, woodlandslanding.com, is expected to go live March 1.

Townhome development is on the rise in the Wilmington area. Included on the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners agenda March 5 is a quasi-judicial hearing on a rezoning request for a project that includes hundreds of townhomes.

The request is for nearly 75 acres that would allow 499 residential units near the 5800 block of Carolina Beach Road; of those, 97 will be single-family dwellings and 402 townhomes.

Another rezoning request involves the potential development of 22 townhomes at 4725 South College Road.
