A new gas station is slated to be built on the grounds of the Wilmington International Airport.

Airport officials on Thursday hosted a groundbreaking for the new Circle K fuel station and convenience store that will be constructed at 1620 Airport Blvd., officials with the Wilmington International Airport (ILM) said in a news release.

The new development will go up just inside the main entrance to the airport. For Circle K, it’s the 13th location in the Wilmington area, officials said in the release.

The 5,200-square-foot store is expected to open in early 2022 and bring 20 jobs. The project includes a fuel canopy with seven pumps serving gasoline and diesel fuel.

“We are very excited to bring the Circle K experience to new locations in Wilmington and throughout the coastal region of North Carolina,” said Will Rice, Circle K vice president of operations in the company’s Coastal Carolinas region, in the release. “We are on a mission to make our customers’ lives a little easier every day, and we look forward to doing that with a great experience for airport visitors and workers.”
