GE Hitachi To Move Employees Under One Nuclear Service Vendor

GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy is making a change to the outside contractors used to support its nuclear outage and inspection services.

That change was noted in a recent Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, commonly called WARN notices, filed this week. 

While typically WARN notices are used to report mass layoffs, GE Hitachi officials said Wednesday there are no changes being made to its workforce total. 

The goal is that the 261 workers reported in the WARN notice under FieldCore Service Solutions LLC, a vendor of GE Hitachi, would transition to another vendor and that "there would not be a net difference in the overall employment figure," Jon Allen, GE Hitachi spokesman, said Wednesday.

The WARN notice reported that FieldCore Service Solutions would permanently close at 3901 Castle Hayne Road (the site of GE Hitachi), with 261 employees affected. The effective date is June 1.

Atlanta-based FieldCore Service Solutions and Houston-based Sonic Systems International work under contract to help support GE Hitachi's nuclear maintenance business, which typically peaks during the spring and fall.

"GEH has made a strategic business decision to consolidate the majority of outage and inspection services work under one primary vendor," Allen said in an email. "The number of contract workers needed to support this work has not changed, but in order to increase efficiency, GEH will work primarily with one vendor, Sonic Systems, Inc., beginning in June."
