Waste Industries Purchases Pender County Waste Company

By Jenny Callison, posted May 15, 2019
Raleigh-based Waste Industries has purchased Axon Disposal Service, which provided trash collection in Pender County.

Waste Industries’ area Vice President Ben Habets confirmed Wednesday that his company had acquired Axon and would be assuming Axon’s routes as of next week. Waste Industries already had a presence in Pender County, serving both residential and commercial customers.

Habets declined to disclose the purchase price.

Axon, which was based in Hampstead, served residential customers in Hampstead and Rocky Point with curbside pick-up.

Since the purchase became final, Waste Industries has been notifying Axon customers of the change, integrating routes and merging systems, Habets said.

“There’s a good bit of change, and it takes a couple of weeks to implement,” he said. “We’re excited, because [having a single provider] represents greater efficiencies and having fewer trucks in the neighborhoods we both served."

Habets said that the Axon acquisition included “a couple of trucks,” which will continue in service. They will eventually be rebranded as Waste Industry trucks.

The same is true of Pink-Trash trucks, part of assets Waste Industries gained in its purchase of that New Hanover County company March 1.

Waste Industries, founded in Raleigh in 1970, serves a number of counties in eastern North Carolina, including Brunswick and New Hanover.
