GE Aviation Lands More Than $17B In Deals At Dubai Air Show

By Jenny Callison, posted Nov 12, 2015
GE Aviation's Castle Hayne plant does not need to worry about running out of work any time soon. Engine-related orders worth more than $17 billion were placed with the company at this week's 2015 Dubai Air Show, the company announced this week.

By the conclusion of the show, which took place Nov. 8-12, GE Aviation and its partner company CFM International had netted both engine orders and long-term contracts. In its announcement Wednesday, GE Aviation stated also that it had forged “new relationships with the Middle East’s growing aviation industry players.”

While many of the orders are for maintenance of existing engines, the agreements also include one from Etihad Airways for two high-efficiency GE90-115B engines. Vietnam’s VietJetAir chose CFM International’s CFM56-5B engine to power 15 Airbus aircraft. Two other airlines – Royal Air Maroc and Emirates – ordered overhauls of engines currently in service.

The engine orders will keep GE Aviation’s plant in Castle Hayne busy continuing to produce rotating parts for the company’s new generation of fuel-efficient engines.

In addition to Emirates and Royal Air Maroc, most other major purchasers at the show are Middle Eastern companies. They include the Advanced Electronics Company (Saudi Arabia), Qatar Airways, Pegasus Airlines (Turkey), Jazeera Airways (Kuwait) and Etihad Airways (United Arab Emirates).

“The Middle East’s aviation industry is making a significant impact worldwide,” Muhammad Al-Lamadani, senior executive and general manager of GE Aviation Sales for the Middle East, Russia/Commonwealth of Independent States and Turkey, said in the release.
