UNCW On Money Magazine's 'beach Lovers' List

By Jenny Callison, posted Nov 9, 2015
University of North Carolina Wilmington was included on Money magazine’s recently publishd list of 10 Best Colleges for Beach Lovers. The university ranked 10th.

“We started by narrowing our Best Colleges ranking to schools in states that border the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, or Gulf of Mexico, and pulled out schools that had easy beach access,” the magazine stated on its website, referring to its 2015 list of Best Colleges for Your Money.

The beach lovers' list could contain no more than five colleges per state, and only one college per city. Colleges near northern, rocky coasts were not considered.

UNCW was North Carolina’s only representative on the list; The Citadel was the only South Carolina school on the list.

The brief description of UNCW on the list website notes that the nearest beach – Wrightsville Beach – is seven miles from campus, and that the university has a “strong marine science program, Division I beach volleyball team and competitive surfing club.”

UNCW is 426th on Money magazine’s Best Colleges ranking.
