UNCW Announces Chancellor Search Committee

A search committee for University of North Carolina Wilmington’s next chancellor was announced Monday afternoon by the university.
 
The 19-member committee is made up of UNCW trustees, faculty, staff, alumni, community members and one representative each of the UNCW Board of Visitors and the UNCW student body.
 
UNC-system president Tom Ross will visit the UNCW campus Oct. 2 to formally charge the committee with the search, which will be "national in scope and facilitated by a suitably prestigious national recruiting firm, to be named by the committee after interviewing a short list of contenders," university officials said in a news release, which stated also that the search committee "will engage the campus and the community, via open forums, to help identify the traits needed in a new chancellor."

The successful candidate will replace Gary Miller, who left the university Aug. 1 to become chancellor of University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Ross appointed William Sederberg in early June to serve as the interim until a new permanent chancellor is in place.

“From my experience at the national level, there is little doubt that the UNCW Chancellorship will attract great candidates from across the country," Sederburg said in the release.
 
Six members of UNCW’s Board of Trustees are on the committee: Michael Shivar, Wendy Murphy, Dennis Burgard, Wilma Daniels, Carlton Fisher and Gidget Kidd. Shivar and Murphy will co-chair the committee, according to the release.
 
Other members of the committee are: Gabriel Lugo, faculty senate president and associate professor of mathematics and statistics; Tom Barth, professor of public and international affairs; Paula Reid, associate professor of nursing; Woody Hall, professor of economics; Kathy Roney, professor of early childhood, elementary, middle, literacy and special education; Tobi Polland,  trustee and SGA president; Terry Ismert, staff senate chairwoman and adult nurse practitioner at the UNCW Student Health Center; Morgan Jackson, UNCW Board of Visitors member; Hugh Caison, UNCW Foundation member; Patrick Boykin, former student-athlete and local business leader; Wilmington mayor Bill Saffo; Bob Warwick, longtime UNCW advocate and community leader; and Agnes Beane, longtime UNCW advocate and community leader.
