Susan Foley Pierce has been named to serve as interim director of the University of North Carolina Wilmington School of Nursing. Her appointment was effective July 22.
She was a visiting professor and interim dean of the school during the 2008-2009 academic year.
Pierce has both an MSN and Ph.D. from UNC-Chapel Hill, a B.S. from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth and an RN Diploma from Union Hospital in Fall River, Mass. She also has completed certificate programs at Georgetown University (bioethics) and UNC (academic administration).
From 1976 to 2007, Pierce was a member of the UNC-CH nursing faculty, and held numerous administrative positions. She also served as an associate faculty scholar at the Duke University Institute on Care at the End of Life and as an
instructor in the School of Nursing at the University of Massachusetts
at Dartmouth.
