Kawczynski becomes UNCW community partnerships specialist
The University of North Carolina Wilmington hired Bill Kawczynski as a community partnerships specialist. Kawczynski will assist UNCW’s growing partnership efforts “by supporting existing initiatives throughout the region and beyond, and researching the potential for new partnerships,” according to a news release. He previously worked at UNCW for nearly 12 years as assistant director of the UNCW Science & Mathematics Education Center. He most recently worked for Cape Fear Community College as workforce development coordinator. He also served as a database manager, operations analyst and logistics coordinator for the Multi-National Forces-Iraq for more than a year.
Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity adds staffers
Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity hired new staff members for the nonprofit. Blair Hamburg was hired as the Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative coordinator, a position funded to work toward the revitalization of neighborhoods, according to a press release. Habitat also hired Rachel LaCoe as development coordinator to assist in special events, grant writing, marketing and communications.
JC Morgan hires commercial real estate appraiser
Wilmington-based real estate and consulting firm JC Morgan Company hired Elise Rocks as a commercial real estate appraiser. Rocks has experience appraising a variety of retail, office, industrial, multi-family and special use property types.
Oak Island Pediatrics hires physician
Oak Island Pediatrics hired Dr. Paul A. Buongiorno as a physician specializing in psychiatric consultations and ongoing psychiatric management. Buongiorno has more than 25 years clinical experience treating psychiatric disorders including depression, bipolar disorder and anxiety disorders in adults. He is board certified as a diplomate by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
Local attorney to head indigent defense group
Shallotte attorney W. James Payne was elected as chairman of the N.C. Commission for Indigent Defense Services (IDS). IDS is a governing body created by the General Assembly in August 2000 that is responsible for overseeing the representation of the criminally accused who are indigent or cannot afford representation themselves.
Brunswick Women’s Center hires NP
Brunswick Women’s Center hired nurse practitioner Sara Brown to help patients at the group’s Supply and Leland locations. Brown is a graduate of the Rex Hospital School of Nursing in Raleigh and the family nurse practitioner program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Contracting company names regional manager
Indianapolis, Ind.-based contracting company Shiel Sexton hired Tony Datena as the company’s Wilmington regional manager. Datena was employed by Shiel Sexton for 10 years. Shiel Sexton has two locations, in Indianapolis and Charlotte. The firm is licensed to build in 40 states and focuses on commercial, health care, education, public works and science and technology projects.
