GE Hitachi Nuclear CEO Jack Fuller To Retire

By Josh Splilker, posted May 21, 2010

[This story has been updated from its original version.]

GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy’s top executive, Jack Fuller, is leaving his position as president and CEO of the company. He will retain his position as chairman of the board until his retirement next year.

Caroline Reda will become president and CEO effective July 5.

"Jack is recognized as a nuclear industry leader, and I am pleased that his expertise and knowledge will continue to be focused on strategic initiatives which are vital to our long-term success," said Steve Bolze, president & CEO, GE Power & Water in a press release.

"Taking on the daily operations of the business is Caroline Reda, who has spent many years in our nuclear organization. Her leadership experience across the company makes her a superb candidate to continue the momentum by GEH in the nuclear space."

Reda is CEO of GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies, which has 5,000 employees and is based in Billerica, Mass., according to GE’s website. Reda previously worked with Global Nuclear Fuels Americas, and was plant manager, president and chief operating officer. Reda has 17 years of nuclear industry experience.

Reda joined GE in 1984 and also was previously president and CEO of GE Energy Parts Inc. She is a 1985 graduate of the University of North Carolina Wilmington with a degree in computer science. She has a master’s degree from N.C. State in industrial engineering.

Fuller says that he will split his time overseeing the GE Hitachi board and the Global Nuclear Fuels board and will spearhead nuclear initiatives in India.

“This role will give me the opportunity to continue several projects that are very important to me personally and are vital for the long-term success of the business,” Fuller wrote in an email to colleagues this week.

Fuller became president and CEO of GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy in February 2008 replacing Andy White.  Fuller joined the company in 1995.

A copy of the letter to Fuller’s colleagues is below.

Colleagues,

Today, you will see an announcement on a leadership change for GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy.

The current role of Chairman of the Board and President & CEO of GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy will be split into two positions. I will remain as Chairman of the Board until my retirement next year, and Caroline Reda will become President & CEO, effective July 5, 2010. This role will give me the opportunity to continue several projects that are very important to me personally and are vital for the long-term success of the business.

In addition to overseeing board activities for GEH and GNF, I will continue to lead our new power plant efforts in India and provide guidance on the development of our Global Laser Enrichment technology. I also will continue to be an advocate for used nuclear fuel recycling with the US government and oversee our outreach to the Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future. My efforts will be primarily focused externally – with our customers, partners, in the industry and with policy makers around the world.

I had the pleasure of working with Caroline during her time in Global Nuclear Fuels Americas, where she served as a plant manager and then as President and COO. Caroline spent 17 years in the nuclear business, and her many successes since then make her a superb candidate to lead our efforts into the future. She currently serves as President and CEO of GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies – a position she has held since 2004.

I know that Caroline and I can count on your hard work and commitment as we work together to position GEH for continued success.

Thank you all for continued hard work for the business.

Jack Fuller
