Pleasure Island Chamber Announces New Board Of Directors

By Alison Lee Satake, posted Jan 15, 2010

With more than 400 business members, the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce recently announced its new board of directors for 2010.

“A couple of years ago, there was a decided change with the chamber – to become more community development minded,” said Alan Pacek, the new chairman of the board. Other than the local city government, there are no non-profit organizations on Pleasure Island, he said. Establishing a foundation and operating like a non-profit organization helps the chamber partner with local government to educate and inform residents and stakeholders, he said.

Serving with Pacek as an officer will be Cynthia Remahl, the broker in charge of Pleasure Island Intracoastal Realty as the chamber’s Vice Chairwoman, Paula Bradford with Bank of America as the Treasurer, Greg Reynolds of Reynolds Architecture as the Secretary and Bruce Holsten with American Harbor Ltd. as the Chairman Emeritus.

The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce has doubled its membership during the past 5 years. “We’re extending our reach of chamber members off the island, because a lot of businesses benefit from the island,” Pacek said. The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce oversees a visitor center, where it cross-promotes attractions throughout the area, including Wilmington and Myrtle Beach.

The board of directors for 2010 are Brant Barnwell with Intracoastal Realty, Anne Brodsky with Palm Air Vacation Rentals, Ann Coen with Shoppes at Squigley’s, Brett Darlington with the Courtyard by Marriott, Donna Gurganus with First Bank, Bill Harrison with the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area, Carol Magestro with Carolina Beach Furniture and Jane Hassell with Island Cakery.

New members to the board are Frank Grady, Jr. with New York Life Insurance Co., Michael Kirkbride of Kirkbride Homes and Simon Sanders with the Pleasure Island Lifeguard Association.
