In early April, the board of directors of MedNorth Health Center announced Althea Johnson’s promotion to chief executive officer.
 
Johnson started with the company as deputy director in 2007 and then rose to chief operating officer in 2013, according to a news release. Before joining the company, Johnson served as chief operating officer of Plainfield Neighborhood Health Services Corp. in New Jersey. Her "impressive administrative and service experience within the health industry" qualified her for the promotion, officials stated in the release.
 
The agency has operated in New Hanover County for the past 20 years. In addition to promoting Johnson,  MedNorth is planning to expand its services throughout the region, the release stated.
