Are You Too Scared To Move?

Sponsored Content provided by Marty Cayton - President & Owner, TeamLogic IT of Wilmington & Fayetteville

Some people are terrified of snakes or spiders. Others are frightened of ghosts and the supernatural.

But there’s one thing that scares almost everyone - moving!

If you become panic-stricken at the thought of moving your office equipment and repositioning your IT structure to get it up and running in a new place, you can relax. With the help of IT professionals and some pre-planning, moving day is no longer a traumatic event.

Besides just finding a new place where everything will fit, you need to find something that will work for your business, now and in the future.

When considering a move, keep in mind the following areas of concern:

  • High-speed internet - Make sure you can connect to good-quality internet quickly. With popular cloud technology and continued advances in online communication and collaboration, your new location should have fast and dependable information download and upload speeds.
  • Electrical infrastructure - We’ve all watched those renovation TV shows, in which older buildings are flipped into cool new business spaces, but establish up front that the electrical infrastructure can handle the power supply and connections needed for your business. Keep in mind your future business plans and how growth will affect the electrical load. Extension cords and power strips are not safe substitutes for a well-planned power infrastructure.
  • Emergency power - With the many storms we have experienced lately, we are continually reminded of the importance of emergency power and backup capabilities. If your business could be in trouble as a result of even a short period without electricity, then your priority should be a building with a backup generator system in place.
  • Floor plan - Office spaces with a lot of walls and elongated or irregular layouts can cause issues with wireless networks. Although you can set up almost any space using more equipment and other creative fixes, the resulting costs and complexity may decrease internet bandwidth.
  • Cabling and audiovisual framework - If you use a lot of videoconferencing and other collaborative meeting and presentation tools, a location that is already wired to meet these needs can save time and money, instead of requiring an investment in upgrades.
  • Physical transport - Although it may seem simple, physically moving office technology equipment requires expertise and transit protection. Disconnecting and reconnecting equipment should be handled by an expert, and everything should be labeled properly to avoid that frustrating tangle of miscellaneous cables. Always ensure backups are up to date and moved separately.
Looking for a new office can be a long and difficult process. Using an IT relocation team to evaluate the information technology base at each prospective location can significantly reduce the cost of later upgrades. Preplanning is key and should start well before your move. At TeamLogic IT we assign a dedicated team to ensure we meet your schedule and get you fully operational by move-in time.

Don’t let the nightmares of relocating overwhelm you. We can take care of all your IT infrastructure moving concerns… leave the scary stuff to us!
