Julie-Ann Scott-Pollock

Communication and Performance Studies professor
UNCW

Julie-Ann Scott-Pollock is a professor, researcher and performance artist who teaches storytelling, performance and qualitative research. She will be a speaker in this year’s TEDxAirlie event March 29.

“I’m a Mac person because I like having my work computer, iPad and phone all synced together,” Scott-Pollock said. “I store my life on OneDrive. I don’t know how I lived and worked without it.”

Subscribes to The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic and HuffPost.

One website Scott-Pollock checks and manages for work is uncwstorytelling.org where she and her students highlight their shows, performances and publications.

Some of her favorite podcasts include Poetry Magazine Podcast and Duolingo. “I’ve been growing as a poet, and I love the mix of interviews, poetry audio and commentary offered on Poetry Magazine Podcast,” she said. “Duolingo podcast is improving my Spanish comprehension so I can keep up with my son in Spanish immersion second grade.”

Enjoys watching The Daily Show and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver because it keeps her laughing at the absurdity of the world, she said.

She recently read The Book of Separation by Tova Mirvis. “It was so thought-provoking and had me thinking deeply about relationships, identity, growth and faith.”
