As co-founder of a startup that makes educational software for teachers, Sarah Ritter uses products such as Microsoft Visio to make business process flow charts, Balsamiq to make screen mockups and DbSchema to make database diagrams as well as different project management tools.
For news, she checks BBC News and “I still read the Washington Post on the weekends.”
Recently read book is All the Single Ladies by Rebecca Traister, “and I would recommend it to women between the ages of 20-50 years old. The book has a lot of facts about marriage ages and careers woven in with stories of women.” Also reading Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products by Nir Eyal.
Go-to apps include Audible – “I love listening to well-read stories,” – Quora to keep up to date with work and team collaboration system Trello – “great on mobile and web.”
Digital device recommendation is her Apple Watch. “I am a left-handed person, so I have always hated wearing a watch, but I love my Apple Watch. It is so cool to have haptic feedback giving you cues like meeting reminders.”
On social media, Ritter follows: Vivek Wadhwa on Twitter (@wadhwa), Girl Develop It (@girldevelopit) and Girls in Tech (@GirlsinTech). She also uses LinkedIn to keep up with mentors’ posts. “Chris Heivly, Lizzy [Hazletine, both of Durham-based The Startup Factory] and ExitEvent post pretty relevant startup news. Moz posts great tips for any marketing and SEO topics.”
