Wilmington-based Southern Gothic productions has been branching out this year to incorporate all aspects of the emerging social media scene.

The production company is co-owned by former One Tree Hill TV series actor Hilarie Burton and One Tree Hill producer Kelly Tenney. They recently released the first episode of their webseries, “Friendship Union Community Theater,” on their Web site: http://www.sogopro/.  The “webisode” was shot in a theater on Front Street and used local actors.

The company plans to produce three more webisodes for the series and is also working on producing a graphic novel, said Denise Gideon, host/producer for the Southern Gothic Productions podcast.

Burton and Tenney are also in the process of raising funds for their feature film, “Pedestrian,” which they plan to film next summer in Wilmington.

“The company is incorporating all aspects of social media to create and build a fan base including blogs, vlogs, podcasts and Twitter,” Gideon said.

Tenney was a recent guest on Wilmington’s Say It Social Radio with Ty Downing and Tim Moore.

Southern Gothic is using its Web site as a tool to allow fans to get updates on the company, share music, art and the love of books. It’s also the place for the production company to post blogs, video blogs and short films in development. The site also has an interactive chat area for fans and Southern Gothic team members to connect.

Southern Gothic incorporates Twitter into its daily updates with its site www.twitter.com/SoGoPro
