BB&T exec appointed UNCW trustee

C. Phillip Marion Jr., senior vice president and area executive for BB&T Bank, was named Thursday to the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
Gov. Beverly Perdue appointed the board’s newest member. His term will expire in 2015.
“I am humbled and honored that the governor chose me to help serve the students, faculty and staff of UNCW as a trustee,” Marion said in a news release. “UNCW is one of the sparks needed to keep our economy strong and vibrant here in Southeastern North Carolina.”
He has more than 30 years of banking experience with BB&T and is responsible for marketing, administrative leadership, leadership development and business development. He is a native of Greensboro, but lives in Wilmington.
He is currently a board member of the Cape Fear Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is a past board member of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce and Wilmington Industrial Development. He is a past board chairman for the Cape Fear Area United Way.
He has a bachelor’s degree in business from East Carolina University and is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University.
