Battlefield's Center Reopens After Repairs

By Sherri Crawford, posted Jun 29, 2018
Another of the area’s historic attractions that recently underwent renovations was Pender County’s Moores Creek National Battlefield.

The attraction recently reopened its visitor center and Patriots Hall Community Center after several months of repairs.

Construction updates to the visitor center, housed in a 1950s facility, included a new metal roof and restructured flooring, according to a statement. While the visitor center closed in November, the site’s community center has been closed since suffering flood damage from Hurricane Matthew, which hit in 2016.

“The battlefield sat submerged below nearly 8 feet of water,” according to the site’s January 2017 newsletter. “Patriots Hall received nearly three feet of water and nearly all contents were lost.”

Interior and exterior renovations to Patriots Hall comprised the installation of an HVAC system, among several damage-repair projects.
