On Oct. 1, Cape Fear Sports Medicine, an orthopedic practice with nearly a quarter of a century of serving Wilmington, will join EmergeOrtho, according to an announcement this week.

“We are excited about what this new association means for our patients,” said Dale W. Boyd Jr., MD, founder and president of Cape Fear Sports Medicine, in a news release. “As part of EmergeOrtho, our patients will simply have increased access to a much larger network of care and services in numerous locations from the coast to the mountains.”

A board-certified orthopedic surgeon and fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist, Boyd focuses on sports medicine for athletes of all ages and competitive levels.

"He is highly experienced in treating injuries and conditions of the elbow, knee and lower limb, including knee and shoulder reconstructions and joint preservation through cutting-edge cartilage and ligament procedures," according to the release.

Boyd also has extensive experience caring for pre-adolescent athletes, from both a surgical and nonsurgical perspective.

A graduate of Drexel University College of Medicine, Boyd completed his residency at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, and his fellowship at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.

Boyd is continuing to see his established patients and welcomes new ones in his current office at 6019 Oleander Drive, Suite 200. Patients can continue to call the same number for appointments and treatment.

“We share the goal of helping patients emerge stronger, healthier and better,” said Stephen DeBiasi, CEO of EmergeOrtho, in the release. “Adding a physician with Dr. Boyd’s credentials and reputation continues to strengthen our remarkably accomplished medical team.”

EmergeOrtho, one of the largest physician-owned, independent
orthopedic practices in North Carolina, has 34 board-certified or board-eligible physicians, plus 31 midlevel providers and a team of therapists, technicians and support staff. The Wilmington region has seven physician locations and nine physical and occupational therapy offices.
