Report Looks At Novant's Economic Impact

Winston-Salem-based Novant Health, which has a presence in Brunswick County, generated $9 billion in economic activity statewide last year, according to a recently released report.
 
The health care system also generated more than 55,000 jobs and over $959 million in tax revenues in the state, concluded the report, which was commissioned by Novant Health and conducted by FTI Consulting’s Center for Healthcare Economics and Policy.
 
Novant Health has 12 medical centers, including Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center in Bolivia. Statewide, it also operates nine outpatient surgery centers, 26 diagnostic imaging centers, eight outpatient rehabilitation centers and more than 530 physician clinics, officials said.
 
The $9 billion figure included $8.7 billion from operations and $340 million from spending on new construction, according to the report.
