Wilmington Health has partnered with Hire Scene Inc. to find certified medical assistants who can work as needed, according to a news release.

The partnership is intended to find CMAs looking for "gig work" through the app, which allows a user to take jobs that work with their schedules. This app will help fill some of the CMA workforce gaps at Wilmington Health, officials said.

"Recruiting top talent is a challenge in healthcare as well as many other industries. HireScene provides a unique opportunity to attract qualified applicants that may not be working full-time due to a variety of reasons. We are excited to be part of a cutting-edge recruitment sourcing technology to add to our recruitment platform," Jennifer Henson, director of human resources for Wilmington Health, said in an email.

There is a shortage of CMAs in health care, Henson said, adding that there are a number of full-time positions open currently for CMAs across the Wilmington Health practice. The Hire Scene app will help fill gaps in CMA coverage at select locations caused by permanent staffers' personal leave, vacation or absences due to sickness.

Hire Scene, previously YS Talent and Youngblood Staffing before that, has assisted Wilmington Health in the past with temporary contract work and will continue to do so through the development of the Hire Scene app, officials said.

In April, the company announced it changed names and started the app to expand employment options for the gig-seeking workforce.

The Hire Scene app is a "new technology that has been created to meet the flexibility that today's workers demand," according to the news release. "Similar to ridesharing apps, it can be turned on when employees want to work and turned off when they are unable to work."

“We found that there are a number of CMAs out there who are not working because they do not want to commit to a full-time 8-5p position,” Henson said, adding that some have children at home or other obligations that make it impossible for them to work full time.

"Many still want to work but want to choose when, where and for how long," she said. "The HireScene App will allow us to find talented CMAs looking to care for patients during the times when we need assistance with coverage. It’s a win-win for all."

Hire Scene is currently in the recruiting process for Wilmington Health, said Mike Youngblood, founder and CEO of Hire Scene. "We're already talking with people and connecting to that quality workforce," he said.

That process will get a boost through extended time for interviews through Hire Scene. In about a week, Hire Scene plans to increase interview days from five days a week, to running its interviews seven days a week between 8 a.m. to 8 p.m, he added.

"After being properly vetted, approved certified medical assistants will receive instant notifications to their phone when openings are available at a Wilmington Health location. They will then choose the days or shifts they want to work, allowing them the flexibility to make their own schedule," officials said in the release.

Youngblood estimates it will take a couple of weeks to develop a talent pool to fulfill the CMA base needed for as-needed work at Wilmington Health.

CMA candidates who are interested in finding work with Wilmington Health can download the Hire Scene app on their mobile devices from the Apple or Google Play store, according to the release.
