Urgent Dental Clinic Set To Open In Landfall Area

By Christina Haley O'Neal, posted Nov 30, 2017
An urgent care dental clinic is opening in the Landfall area, officials announced this week.

ASAP Urgent Dental Care will open a 2,500-square-foot space at 1135 Military Cutoff Road, Suite 204, according to a news release. That is in the same building as New Hanover Regional Medical Center Urgent Care, across the street from Mayfaire Town Center.

The clinic is leasing the space from New Hanover Regional Medical Center, according to ASAP management. The group has already moved into the facility with final construction coming into place, officials said.

The clinic will begin accepting patients on Dec. 18, providing after-hours care and convenience for treating dental emergencies for individuals in the region, officials said in the release.

The clinic was developed by local dental and private equity professionals, said Kelsi Wilder, administrator for ASAP Urgent Dental Care. Wilmington is the first location for the clinic. ASAP Urgent Dental Care is already looking to expand in Myrtle Beach, where site selection is taking place. Plans also call to open a third location in Hilon Head.

“This is something that we are wanting to spread and grow for not just the Wilmington area, but the idea to help all people. So eventually we would like to have more offices and locations. We are already working on Myrtle Beach,” Wilder said.

ASAP Urgent Dental Care will be open 8 a.m.-8 p.m., weekdays, weekends and holidays. The new clinic aims to provide relief for emergency rooms and ER doctors receiving oral patients, as well as provide an avenue for regional dentist practitioners to send patients for emergency care, officials said.

While a number of other local practitioners offer emergency dentistry services, the ASAP clinic is solely focused on receiving and treating urgent care cases.

“It's going to be just like a medical urgent care – when you have an emergency and you’re sick and can't make it to the doctor during normal business hours – but it’s going to be for dental emergencies,” Wilder said. “It's definitely going to be a first for this area ... that we've heard of.”

“There has been a tremendous response from the dental community because they are overwhelmed,” Wilder added.

While the clinic is not meant to substitute routine dental care, the facility provides services for a number of dental emergencies including toothaches, pains, extractions and infections as well as problems with fillings, implants and dental work or knocked-out teeth, Wilder said. The clinic can treat and make referrals to a dental specialist if necessary.

To start, the Wilmington office will be staffed with a dentist, dental assistant and a front desk receptionist during clinic hours, with a number of dental practitioners on rotation, Wilder said. Staffing at the facility is likely to grow depending on workload, she said. The clinic will include a room for panoramic X-rays and four dental examination rooms.
