The 2016 Health Care Heroes awards took place Saturday night at the Hilton Wilmington Riverside.
More than 350 attended the event, which is in its fourth year, to recognize providers and volunteers in nine categories spanning a range of health care fields in the Wilmington area.
For the awards, a panel of judges reviewed nominations from the community and Business Journal readers to pick the category finalists and winners.
A special award for Lifetime Achievement went to Henry Hawthorne
, a longtime pediatrician who even in retirement continues to impact the health care community through his work with Community Care of Lower Cape Fear.
