The New Hanover Regional Medical Center Cleft Lip and Palate Team recently was recognized by the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association and the Cleft Palate Foundation.
The multidisciplinary team that sees patients out of NHRMC’s Nunnelee Pediatric Specialty Clinics “demonstrated adherence to standards that focus on the team approach to comprehensive care, management, communication and services for patients and caregivers,” a news release said.
Children born with clefts and other craniofacial conditions often require complex and specialized care from their infant years into young adulthood, the release stated.
“We are honored to have been approved and to have the team recognized for its dedication to providing high quality care,” Michael Jaskolka, doctor of dental surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, said in the news release. Jaskolka is director of the NHRMC Cleft Lip and Palate Team.
The Commission on Approval Teams’ approval as a cleft palate team is through 2019.
