Retailer Gives NHRMC Injury Prevention Grant

By Ken Little, posted Sep 12, 2014
Kohl’s recently gave New Hanover Regional Medical Center a grant of more than $22,000 for injury prevention education and awareness, hospital officials announced.

The grant is through the Kohl’s Cares program, which partners with NHRMC’s trauma services.

Through the program, area schools, community health fairs and festivals feature water, bike and helmet safety programs, according to a news release. Events take place at Kohl’s stores as well.

Since 2006, Kohl’s Cares has given more than $200,000 in grant funding to NHRMC for the outreach.

“We are excited to continue this partnership with Kohl’s to help keep the kids in our community safe,” Colleen Mistovich, injury prevention coordinator in NHRMC’s trauma services department, said in the release. “Over the last eight years, we have given out thousands of bike helmets and life jackets, and spent countless hours talking with families about staying safe and preventing injuries.”

The Wisconsin-based retailer has raised more than $231 million through its Kohl’s Cares merchandise program, in which its stores sell $5 books and toys with the net profits going to children’s health and education programs across the county.
