Davis Health Care Center and Champions Assisted Living Facility broke ground earlier this month on new campus construction projects. The work is being done on property adjacent to the Porters Neck Road facilities.
Despite the current economic climate, the expansion of both facilities demonstrates ongoing growth and planning for the future, officials said.
Davis Health Care Center is located at 1011 Porter’s Neck Road, while Champions Assisted Living Facility is located at 1007 Porter’s Neck Road. Both facilities provide health, wellness and rehabilitation services to the aging “in a loving continuum of care environment in which each resident lives at an optimum level of function and dignity,” according to a news release.
The first development phase is the construction of a pharmacy and medical services building. It will accommodate a physician practice operated by Southeastern Area Health Education Center.
“The expansion of our pharmacy, physician and rehabilitation services is just one aspect of our continuous commitment to providing positive outcomes for our residents and is a direct response to a discerning senior population that expects quality in all aspects of their health care,” said Charles Long, Executive Director of Champions and Davis.
The new campus building will also house an Omnicare Pharmacy and dispensary. The pharmacy will primarily serve the residents of Davis Health Care Center and Champions Assisted Living, but will also service neighboring senior care facilities.
It should be completed in July, officials said.
Phase two of the campus development plan centers on the construction of a rehabilitation and wellness facility adjoining the existing skilled nursing center. The project design has been submitted to state regulatory officials for approval.
Groundbreaking for phase one of the project was in early February. Lee F. Cowper, Inc., is general contractor.
Bruce Bowman, AIA, of BMS Architects, is leading the design team. BMS Architects, recognized for designing and constructing the University of North Carolina Wilmington student recreation facility, in addition to the Cape Fear Museum Pavilion, was the local architectural firm chosen to design both campus projects.
Davis Health Care Center and Champions Assisted Living Facility are operated by Cornelia Nixon Davis, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation with more than 40 years in the local health care field.
