County Invites Public To Comprehensive Plan Update Session

By Jenny Callison, posted Aug 11, 2014
After several individual committees have fleshed out individual parts of New Hanover County's comprehensive plan, called Plan NHC, those parts are being rejoined at a public meeting Tuesday from 4-7 p.m., the county announced Monday.

"Whether you have attended one, none, or all of the meetings, we encourage everyone to join in and participate in this process," the county's news release stated. "This comprehensive plan will be used as a guide to address our county’s current trends, create a vision as a community for what we would like the county to look like in 25 years, and determine a plan for how to achieve this vision."

The public phase of the planning process launched in February of this year, introducing county residents to committees assigned to address each of the plan's six themes: Livable Built Environment, Harmony with Nature, Responsible Regionalism, Healthy Community, Interwoven Equity and Resilient Economy. Those committees began meeting individually in March and wound up their assignments in July. Tuesday's session will let the public see how the six segments mesh.

The meeting takes plance 4-7 p.m. at the Historic Court House, 24 N. Third St. Parking is available at the nearby county library parking deck. Parking vouchers will be available at the meeting.

Interested residents who cannot attend can watch the meeting's 4 p.m. presentation on the county's television channel, NHCTV.
