Wilmington-based DryCASE is continuing its growth in new product areas with the release of its latest waterproof technology, as it creates more items for a growing consumer base that demands its electronics stay dry in all conditions.

The company recently launched the Dry VIBES 2.0, a waterproof Bluetooth speaker and radio -- that floats.

"It's critical that we diversify, to continue to grow," said director of marketing Jay Turner.

DryCASE is a part of Dry Corp, which got its start in Wilmington in the medical industry in 1998, by producing vacuum sealed waterproofing technologies that fit over casts, bandages, Ostomies, PICC lines and prosthetics. The company is headquartered at 349 Military Cutoff Road and manufactures all its products in Wilmington.

It debuted its DryCASE brand in 2009 and is focused on gear that protects smartphones, digital cameras, tablets and other personal items from elements like water and sand, while still providing full use inside the waterproof case. The company also produces waterproof headphones, dry bags, backpacks, speakers and accessories.

One of the companies most popular products, its smartphone case, remains a top seller despite the evolution in the phone market.

"In reality, less than 15 percent of the smartphones on the market are waterproof," Turner said. "And those new water-resistant phones still have an open port. Our case is totally waterproof. Sales are still very strong on that product."

Last year Dry Corp unveiled other new products at the Wilmington Boat Show, including the Snow's Cut Soft Cooler.

“It’s been essential for us to come up with new stuff,” Corey Heim, COO of Dry Corp told the Greater Wilmington Business Journal at the boat show in September.

Their products are available in more than 50 countries, and that number is growing.

"Distribution is going very well. We are picking up new retailers and increasing orders from our current retailers," Turner said. "We have over 1000 retailers around the country and work with Dick's Sporting Goods, Wal-Mart, Sportsman's Warehouse and Bass Pro Shops."

Its new Dry VIBES 2.0 floating Bluetooth speaker, which comes with a suction cup mount, a tripod mount, a bike mount and a Carabineer mount, is on the market for $99.

Dry Corp has received Outside Magazine's Best Places to Work award 2012, 2013 and 2016, and North Carolina Business Small Business of the Year in 2013.
