Baby business goes back to basics
July 24, 2009By
What does the company do?
Green Baby is a cloth diaper service that rents and cleans unbleached cloth diapers to customers who can choose to have their diapers delivered or to drop them off at the store for extra savings. Green Baby’s storefront
carries all the diapering accessories one needs to cloth diaper his or her child. Green Baby also educates
parents about the benefits of cloth diapering and provides consultations for those that are interested in using the service.
First-Year Goals?
To educate the Wilmington area about the health benefits, affordability and ease of cloth diapering. By doing so, we hope to achieve a strong presence and a substantial customer bas among young parents. We hope to have at least 100 customers by the end of year one.
Five-Year Goals?
To increase the number of children currently using cloth diapers from 8 percent to 15 percent in the Wilmington area. We also plan to be profitable and very well known among parents.
Current Marketing Strategy?
We have fine tuned our demographics and chosen two print
publications to target these customers. We have also done a lot of cross
marketing, targeting where our demographics visit on a regular basis such as ObGYN offices, baby businesses, holistic venues, birthing coaches, etc. We also plan on attempting a radio campaign also tailored to specifically meet our demographic.
Biggest Threats To Your Business?
Disposable diapers because they are misconceived to be less expensive and easier than cloth diapers.
What factors made right now the right time to launch your business?
With the “green movement,” more people are conscientious about how they are impacting the environment. Also, increase in the onset of early childhood illnesses are causing parents to look closely into what they expose their children to at early ages. Cloth diapering can also be a more affordable option than disposables which is very appealing in this time of economic turmoil.
What makes you different from your competition?
Green Baby is an eco-friendly alternative to disposables because cloth can be reused up to 200 times before being made into rags unlike disposables that take up to 500 years to disintegrate and make up approximately 27.4 tons of garbage in U.S. landfills. Cloth is also healthier for the child because it is free of chemicals, helps them potty train at earlier ages and keeps diaper rash from occurring unlike disposables.
