Corning Credit Union, which has an established presence in the Wilmington market, will soon extend its footprint into neighboring Horry County, South Carolina.
 
The Corning, New York-based credit union announced recently it will open two service centers in the Myrtle Beach area in early 2022. Exact locations will be identified in the coming months, according to a news release.
 
Meanwhile, anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the Horry County area is eligible to join CCU now, officials stated in the release. Some members already live in the state.
 
“We’re excited to strengthen our presence in the Carolinas next year,” Gary Grinnell, Corning Credit Union's president and CEO, said in the release. “The close proximity of the Myrtle Beach area to our existing Wilmington market will allow us to bring our exceptional service to a neighboring community and also enhance the service we provide to our existing South Carolina members.”
 
CCU, which has assets of slightly more than $2 billion, maintains five offices serving members in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties.
 
The credit union opened its first Wilmington-area branch in 1993. In June 2019, it completed a regional headquarters facility on 17th Street Extension that houses branch operations as well as corporate offices serving this region.

Anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the city of Wilmington or the Brunswick County or Pender County areas is eligible to join. CCU serves more than 30,000 members throughout the Cape Fear area, according to spokeswoman Stephanie Carl.
 
CCU’s original territory is the southern tier of New York State. In addition to that area and Wilmington, it serves members in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
