Marking Its 30th Year, Parade Of Homes Starts This Weekend

By Cece Nunn, posted Apr 22, 2016
The 30th annual Parade of Homes, presented by the Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association, begins this weekend showcasing more than 80 homes throughout the region.

The properties featured on the free, self-guided tour include single-family houses, townhomes and custom built dwellings that range in price from the $140s to $4.5 million, according to a news release from WCFHBA.

The event will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, continuing at the same times the following weekend, April 30 through May 1.

The first Parade of Homes was held in 1986, featuring 26 homes with an average price of $100,000, according to an association fact sheet. Last year, the event included 75 homes with an average price of $447,000.

The average price for this year's Parade of Homes line-up is $504,000. The total home value is nearly $42 million, a 20 percent increase from 2015, according to WCFHBA.

The increases are a sign of the times, said Cameron Moore, the home builder association's executive officer.

"Looking alone at the growth in homes on the Parade of Homes Tour over the last three years indicates to me that we are certainly past the point of a rebound," Moore said in an email Thursday. "These [total value] numbers represent year over year incremental growth, which in return I believe shows we have a pretty solid foundation underneath us in regards to the Real Estate Market."

Along with including more homes, another new feature of the tour is the Parade's first Community Showcase sponsor, Compass Pointe, a master planned community in Brunswick County.

Homes on the tour show the latest building trends, materials and products, according to the WCFHBA release.

"We are proud of the role residential and commercial builders play in making home ownership possible for everyone," said Heath Clark, president of WCFHBA, in the release. "We are also proud of the role we play in providing homes, jobs, and a strong tax base in our local communities."
