Corning Credit Union next month will open a new location at 7961 Market St. in Porters Neck.

It will be the fourth area branch for the credit union, which has about 14,000 members in the Wilmington market.

“It’s been part of our long-term strategy that we would have a fourth location in Porters Neck,” said credit union spokeswoman Stephanie Carl. “There is a lot of growth in that area, and we have members there. We want to take advantage of that location so we can be as convenient as possible for them.”

Carl said that in 2015, the credit union experienced a 27 percent increase in membership in the Wilmington market, which also includes Brunswick and Pender counties.

Corning Credit Union purchased the building, a former Yadkin Bank branch, in September for $1.9 million, according to company officials. Yadkin had closed its operations there in July.

The Porters Neck branch is about 4,000 square feet of space and will have an ATM and drive-thru, Carl said. While her organization has refreshed the building interior, there has been no substantial remodel, she added.

“We’ll still have the traditional teller line, although we will also have office space, which is very helpful when members want to meet face-to-face to discuss a larger transaction,” she said. “We will be adding five members to our team to staff the new Porters Neck branch.”

Currently, Corning Credit Union has locations on Racine Drive, 17th Street Extension in Wilmington and on Olde Regent Way in Leland.
