New Hanover County Commissioner Rob Zapple has been appointed by Gov. Roy Cooper to serve on the N.C. Building Code Council, according to a news release.
Zapple was appointed as the county commissioner/county manager representative member, stated the release.
Zapple is a licensed general contractor and the owner and president of Rob Zapple Design and Build Inc, stated the release. He has served as a county commissioner since 2014.
“I appreciate Governor Cooper selecting me for this opportunity and I look forward to serving as a voice for all of Southeastern North Carolina on the Building Code Council,” Zapple said in the release. “The issues that builders and developers face along the coast of North Carolina vary from the building requirements in the piedmont and mountain regions of our state. So it’s important that we continue to be an active part of the discussion, revision, and creation of any codes that may affect our specific region – all with the top priority of protecting the public’s health, safety and welfare.”
Zapple also serves and serves on the board for various organizations in the community.
The Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association and N.C. Home Builders Association both recommended Zapple for the council, stated the release. Officials with the organization said, “his background and experience as an elected official provide him with the technical expertise and professional skill to work cooperatively with the other members of the Council to achieve consensus on the complex issues affecting housing affordability and public safety."
