Historic Wilmington Foundation Announces Preservation Award Winners

The Historic Wilmington Foundation has announced the recipients of its 2020 Preservation Awards.

Historic Wilmington Foundation (HWF) held the 2020 Preservation Awards on social media, announcing its 15 winners.

​“It’s important to honor those who are investing in historic preservation, which has such a positive impact on both our City at large, and in our neighborhoods. HWF’s variety of award categories include Adaptive Reuse, Rehabilitation, Restoration, and Appropriate New Construction, just to name a few,” said Beth Rutledge, HWF executive director, said in the release.

The winners accepted their awards and spoke about their respective projects, officials said in the release.

"HWF’s annual Preservation Awards are chosen by a volunteer committee and recognize the homeowners, businesses and contractors working to preserve and protect our built history," stated the release.

HWF has a mission to "preserve and protect the irreplaceable historic resources of Wilmington and the Lower Cape Fear region," officials said.

The 2020 Preservation Award winners are:

Adaptive Reuse: 
  • The Bodega, 122 S. Third St.;
  • ARRIVE Hotel & Dram Yard Restaurant, 101, 105 and 109 S. Second streets
  • End of Days Distillery, 1815 Castle St.
Appropriate New Construction:
  • 200 Market St.
Rehabilitation:
  • 419 Dock St.
  • Henderson House, 17 S. Sixth St. 
  • Richter Building, 926 N. Fourth St. 
  • St. Stephen AME Church, 501 Red Cross St.
  • Woodward House, 1808 Market St.
Restoration:
  • 816 Dock St.
  • Burgin-Wright House's roof, 224 Market St.
  • Holloway-Hunt House, 1419 Market St.
  • St. James Street's brick streets
George W. Edwards Award:
  • Carol Bragale, HWF volunteer
Award of Merit:
  • NCModernist
